This time it’s me!
I was told that they are restructuring, and going in a different direction.
What can I say? I’m stunned and looking for work. Perhaps that’s enough for now.
Though I’d like to say at least one more thing: Long Live Music Criticism!
I’m really sorry to hear this sad news, Tim. I hope you’ll post reviews on Classical Life. How about this idea – in addition to the generic “Donate” button in the right-hand column, consider ending each post with something along these lines: “If you enjoyed this review and believe live classical music criticism is vital, please click the ‘Donate’ button to your right.” You might be surprised how many music lovers would. I will. And I’ll continue to point readers of my chamber music newsletter to your blog posts on chamber music.
All best,
Jim
Oh noooooooo. I am so sorry, Tim.
Oh, no! This is terrible news. Speechless I am left. AAAARGH!
So sorry that we’ve lost you, Tim. It’s hard to think of anyone on staff so pleasurable to read, and so easy to edit.
Tim – Sorry to hear you have joined the fraternity/sorority. Give me a call or send a text when you can – have some info which you might want to hear/see. 541-525-5280
Nothing printable would suffice.
I’ve tried to be printable today. That’s why I’ve said so little so far.
Cannot begin to tell you how upsetting this is. Can’t begin to express my sympathy and fury. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
The world to which we devoted our lives seems to be ending, if not over…
Aaaaargh.

Oh no! Time for SoCal’s plush set and area orchestras to join forces and support/underwrite this site — for the future of the arts …
Sheer idiocy on their part. We’ve barely kept our subscription and this may be the catalyst to dropping it.
Dearest Tim– So angry and upset for you. I am REALLY REALLY glad you are talking to a lawyer. Fight back as hard as you can. I know, I believe in my heart, that you will find another great job. You have done outstanding work for decades. Make those f’ers pay! Laura
Tim—soo sorry to hear this…you are superb at what you do. I hope you resurface soon where you are once again appreciated. Please keep me updated with your latest contact info. and I want to stay in touch. These are insane times….All the Best, Nina Gordon
I’ve written and deleted and written and deleted and written and deleted so many thoughts. . . . For now, I’ll just go with what I’ve already said: thoughts and prayers.
Gaaaahhh — that’s a terrible and infuriating development. So sorry, TIm. Hoping something positive may yet come of this.
NOOOOO!!! I am sorry and sickened to hear this, Tim. Another nail in the coffin of actual journalism and arts criticism. I always made a point of clicking through to your reviews and articles to make sure you got some click credit. I hope you will find some way to continue to write about music and earn a paycheck for it…I’ll be reading you!
Mangan is the reason I take The Register. Who will replace him?Probably someone who will praise every performance. Or none at all. Typical!
W. J. Lasley of Fullerton.
I’ve just learned of your dismissal, Tim. I hope you find the way forward from here. There are a lot of us doing it, one day at a time.
