Not a bad opus 1. This is the set I have, which includes one of my faves, the inimitable ‘Grande symphonie funebre et triomphale’. La gloire!
Love that piece.
Conducted it a couple of years ago. I love it too. One of my favorite Berlioz pieces.
Thank you, Tim: this is a masterful performance of a piece that no matter how early it was written is nevertheless almost instantly recognizable as typically berliozian.
