As Alex Ross says, “Oh dear.”
Hey kids, does this make you love opera even more?
It strikes me that the instrumental accompaniments may be worse than the vocals.
Next up: “Great Voices sing The Sex Pistols.”

I was surprised to see that they had somehow left out “The Cowboy and the Lady” considering the, um, socio-artistic (?) commentary of the project.
I only made it about a minute through before I had to stop.
Wussie!
Guilty as charged.
Some fare better than others: Danielle de Niese, for example, is nice to look at, while Thomas Hampson appears to be thinking, “what am I doing and why?”, but Rene Pape is at least trying to be interesting and almost succeeds.
I’ve started this sentence six times now and I still can’t find words to express how bad ” Great Voices Sing John Denver” is, so I’ll just stop trying.
I think Alex Ross pretty well summed it up.
Personally, I’m anxiously awaiting both “Kiri Te Kanawa Sings Janis Joplin” and “Coloratura Arias by Yoko Ono”.
A few more suggestions:
” The Metropolitan Opera Tribute to Miley Cyrus”
“Cecilia Bartoli Does It Gangnam Style”
“Gustavo Dudamel Conducts the Music of Trini Lopez”
Hey, I thought it was sacrilege when Rod Stewart was allowed to get his vocal cords anywhere near “The Great American Songbook”. Since then, nothing seems too absurd.
My personal bravo award goes to … CBDIGS.
I want you to know that I listened to every damned second of that. Two thoughts: 1) if this KTEL special is only available for a limited time, what do I get if I order now?, and 2) VERY disappointed not to hear, say Matthias Goerne, take a swipe at “Thank God I’m a Country Boy.”
I’d pay to hear that.
‘Thank God I’m a Country Boy’ is too weighty for just one man – how about the Three Tenors taking it on? Peet gave me my big laugh for the day – thanks.
