Here is my very stupid theory about operatic solo vocalists: their supernaturally loud voices inflict serious damage on their own ear canals and, because of close proximity of those to their brains, this excessive volume has considerable negative effect on the quantity and quality of the few brain cells that manage to remain relatively active after such assaults. However, there are notable exceptions, even among tenors, although these are particularly rare.
This would explain “Great Voices sing John Denver.”
