Merry Christmas, everyone, from the producer of this blog. I appreciate your continued readership.
And though I can’t speak for all of them, I’m certain the Future World Brass (pictured) wishes you all the best as well. The photo dates from 1982 or 1983. It was taken at EPCOT Center in Orlando, Florida. That’s yours truly, front and center. Yes, I was a member of the band, my first professional gig out of college.
Someday, I’ll have to relate the saga of the Future World Brass and my membership therein.
There will be no cash prize awarded for the best comment …

I like your Tuba Halo! Also, you look a little David Bowie-ish in that futuristic outfit.
Wow, that’s a lot of white uniform with the brass. The cummerbunds make you look like minimalist matadors.
Indeed, the miracle of youth.
Almost looks like you were marching out of the temporarily closed Spaceship Earth. Given the all-white outfits, you’d look the part.
Yes, Spaceship Earth was closed down for a time … I can’t quite remember why. Some malfunction, probably.
The uniforms were made out of the finest 1980s polyester, btw. Great for Orlando in the summertime.
I too worked at Disneyland in the 80s (here, not in FL) and that polyester was a daily way of life for all of us here too!
If the theme of this blog entry can be Disney theme parks and, in turn, Orange County, I must add that the PBS network in southern California is now in the hands of those based at a station in Costa Mesa. One nice thing about that is KOCE chose to broadcast the NYE concert of the New York Philharmonic pretty much on a live, same-time basis last night. I don’t believe that ever occurred under the auspices of KCET.
Incidentally, the NY Phil had a program that somewhat duplicates what will be shown on KOCE this Friday, when the LA Philharmonic’s season opener last October is telecast by PBS.
Yes, and tonight KOCE will broadcast the New Year’s concert from Vienna, with the Vienna Philharmonic and Mariss Jansons conducting. They’ll play Strauss, of course. Always worth watching, imo.
