This is an interesting subject– how much of what happens on stage will or won’t distract from high quality music playing as an “accompaniment.” This is the conductor, Maxim Eshkenazy’s, quote about it:
“”Anytime there is something moving fast onstage could be distracting,” he says. “And there will be a lot of that. But I just honestly don’t know (if it will distract), I can’t tell you yet, until we see it (at rehearsal).””
In some ways, I suppose it’s like Disney’s classic “Fantasia.” The classical, great, music helped to propel it to fame… but your average person probably mostly remembers the visuals (even if those visuals were memorable because of the music).
