Someday, I want to snap a photo of every record in my collection. (I’ll probably never do it, though.)

A quarter century with Symphony’s St.Clair. Orange County Register, Sept. 19, 2014.
This is almost identical to the Fall Arts Preview linked in a previous post. It just has a couple of different concerts in the top events.
Classical music: Programming regains its footing. Los Angeles Register, Sept. 16, 2014.
SECOND UPDATE: I’ve decided to take the photo and video down. No one asked me to. Salonen did not approve the photos and did not wear black make-up when they were taken. They were altered after the shoot without his knowledge. Which I do not approve of.
UPDATE: The photos of Esa-Pekka Salonen taken by Pieter Hugo were computer altered and Salonen was unaware that they would be changed in such a manner.
Here’s the cover of the Autumn issue of Port magazine, published in London. Yes, that’s Esa-Pekka Salonen. I wrote the cover story, but didn’t take the photo. It, and others inside, were snapped by the South African photographer Pieter Hugo, who reportedly thinks that “the portrait is dead.”
I have to admit that I was surprised when I saw the photo because I had no idea it was coming. I suppose it’s avant-garde, meant to push buttons. My interview with Salonen, on the other hand, is in plain English, more or less.

Classical music: Musical fare beyond measure. Orange County Register, Sept. 12, 2014.
This is a very difficult solo, especially if you can’t play it.
Kurt Neubauer is the trombonist who nails it here. Recorded in the Tonhalle Zurich earlier this year.
Another in an occasional series …
