I saw that production ten years ago in SF, and… what’s the point? Move Traviata into the 20th century and what’s left is La Rondine with a lot of coughing.
It did not help that the Violetta, Elizabeth Futrall, sang very well while being the coldest and most unsympathetic Violetta I have ever seen.
The production is pointless, I agree. But it’s great to look at, and audiences like that. Doesn’t do much for me though.
