Why Beethoven 1? Several later ones are more impressive, especially the great 9.
Why Tchaikovsky 2? It’s not bad, but i think that 4 is considerably better.
Well, it’s not a list of the “best” scherzos, necessarily. I believe Beethoven’s First is the first symphony to include a scherzo. I also wanted to include some lesser known scherzos. I agree with you about the Tchaikovsky 4th scherzo. Hardly anything is better. But I do love 2 (especially the Markevitch recording) and few have heard it.
