Wonderful. I had the old Wergo recording of this. Zimmermann was a real genius. Small output but so striking. I think his orchestral work Photoptosis is an absolute masterpiece.
I still have that record, which includes Photoptosis. I was lucky enough to hear the LA Phil play Photoptosis once. I think Eschenbach conducted. I don’t recall the audience liking it.
You’re right that Eschenbach conducted that performance. It was the radio broadcast of that concert when I first heard it. Not surprised that the audience didn’t like. It was around that time I saw a young Simon Rattle conduct the Shostakovich 14th and 700 people walked out during the performance! So much has changed since then!
