He wasn’t a mystery guest? He was assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic and that panel hadn’t heard of him? That’s amazing.
I found that a little odd too, Gary, but assistant conductors don’t always have a significant public profile. For instance, can you name the current assistant conductor of the Pacific Symphony?
Tim, good point, but the panel was usually on top of everything. It’s my favorite all-time TV show. I still have a crush on Arlene Francis!
At least Osawa-san had a PR team who saw value in getting him in front of a national audience. I wonder how aggressively orchestras today try to use the mainstream media in this kind of creative way…
