I love this work. I’ve always thought it’d make a great encore piece for the LA Phil.
I agree, CK. It would make a great encore for any orchestra that could play it. I don’t like the concert ending at all, though. I think the ending used in the movie — seguing into the first scene, with Cary Grant getting off the elevator — would work just fine, even though harmonically it doesn’t quite end the piece.
Off the top of my head, I don’t remember how it segued from opening credits to the elevator. Good excuse to “have to” watch this great movie again. I hadn’t thought about it before, but the “tah dah” concert ending does seem a little too perfunctory now that I listen to it again.
