Tim, thanks for taking the time in your review to distinguish between operatic music in general and recitative in particular and what is happening in ‘Streetcar.’ That said, like you, I mostly much enjoyed the production. Blanche is such a great character in the play, and I think Previn and Fleming did her proud. Her singing did remind me of a Fleming interview I heard once in which she described soprano singing as a ‘controlled scream.’
