Since I did not attend this concert, I glad to read this review especially of Maazel’s Mahler. Having heard many recordings of him playing that repertoire, my usual thought was that it was “weird”. I never quite understood where he was coming from, although apparently he is quite convinced of it.
My mother and sister heard the Vienna Phil up in Sonoma County, after they played here. Different conductor, different program, and a better concert.
