Salonen was interviewed on the Tavis Smiley program on PBS recently and said that, for apparently creative reasons, he wanted to spend more time in LA writing/composing and what-not. Which is nice, since to me he, along with, of course, Frank Gehry, the Disney family, Yasuhisa Toyota and Deborah Borda will forever be linked to Walt Disney Concert Hall, particularly around that heady time a bit before, during and after October 2003.
That may be true, but before listing all of those important names, we should not forget to first mention the late Ernest Fleischmann, without whose invaluable managerial contribution, particularly during the most challenging times in 1990s, none of the later successes would probably have been possible.
