Cal State Fullerton’s 2011 New Music Festival: “Strings in the 21st Festival” is upon us, and artistic director Pamela Madsen has put together an impressive lineup. Missy Mazzoli is composer-in-residence. The JACK Quartet launches the event on March 2 with music by Ligeti, Wolfe, Mazzoli and others. eighth blackbird performs music by Ades, Glass, Hartke and others on March 3. Violinist/composer Cornelius Dufallo and composer Paola Prestini pair up for a concert on March 4. The CSUF New Music Ensemble’s blowout on Saturday night features works by Xenakis, Crumb, Mazzoli and more. That concert ends with Rzewski’s teeming “Les Mouton des Panurge,” which was strangely botched under the composer’s direction at last year’s festival. Sunday’s concert will feature a new work by Madsen, performed by the University Symphony Orchestra, coupled with the Arctic images of Camille Seaman. Click here for details.
