Great to see your new digs, Tim!
And I unexpectedly loved the acrobats myself when they came through Baltimore. The musical selections were a bit different in our case–Poulenc (Les Biches Suite), Bartók (Miraculous Mandarin Suite), Satie (Parade), and Copland (Billy the Kid Suite)–but man, it made me wonder why we get so anxious about having something unusual as an option in a season of orchestra programing. It’s not like the Mahler won’t sound as serious next week, and depending on how closely the repertoire for these kinds of special events matches the regular programming, it just might be an honest way to meet a few new audience members half way.
Hi Molly!
Yeah, it was really enjoyable, and harmless. It certainly gave the orchestra an opportunity to revive some great old repertoire, a bunch of which I had only ever heard on records. I’m pretty sure this show would sell out if Cirque de la Symphonie came back. As it was, it was a huge crowd.
