His passing is immensely sad. He was a great composer and the kindest man. This Symphony in particular is one of his most brilliant works. His music deserves to live on and on.
I listened to the Symphony again last night (I was at the premiere). It definitely holds up. I hope LA Phil will play it again soon.
Extremely saddened by his untimely passing. He was the nicest person to work with and i enjoyed playing his music very much – it was truly inspired and masterfully written.
I only spoke with him a couple of times, but he was a truly friendly gentleman, very good to work with. I think his music holds an important place. It is of a rare kind: moderate modernism or modest progressivism. I don’t think calling his music conservative is accurate.
