The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced today that it would offer a concert, free to subscribers, in tribute to its late executive vice president and managing director, Ernest Fleischmann. Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez and associate conductor Lionel Bringuier are set to conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group for the event, at 8 p.m. March 29 in Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The program will be announced at a later date. Free tickets will be made available to subscribers beginning February 22.

Awesome. So glad you published this and that they’re having this tribute. Putting Feb 22 onto my calendar right now.
The only disappointment — no Dudamel. I’m sure it was a logistical nightmare to get three big-name conductors for this kind of thing, but still . . . he is the MD, after all, and EF was part of the crew that “discovered” him. Kinda reinforces the notion that Green Umbrella “ain’t his thang.”
That said, thrilled to have EPS back, and especially happy to see Boulez back in LA conducting the local band. Now that Chicago has an MD of their own, I hope he starts coming more regularly again like he used to back in the day.
Since Pierre Boulez will be 86 by the time of this event, i wouldn’t hold my breath expecting his visits to SoCal to become “regular” afterward, as they were a couple of decades ago. Alas…
When one takes into consideration busy schedules not only of world-renowned conductors but also of the Philharmonic musicians, not to mention the problem of availability of the Walt Disney Concert Hall (which is very infrequent during the winter season) for all rehearsals and the concert itself, “logistical nightmare” is probably an understatement.
As for Gustavo – since he is expecting his first child to arrive in March, he probably doesn’t want to commit to any performances around that time for obvious reasons.
Ah, yes, forgot about impending joyous arrival of the mini-Dude (or is it Dude-let?). Makes sense. He’ll be missed, but I guess we can forgive him (tongue planted firmly in cheek).
